Lucca Market Days

Entering into Piazza San Martino

The Mercato Antiquario Lucchese is the second oldest antique market in Italy. More than 230 exhibitors from all over the country fill the streets and historic center of Lucca every third Saturday and Sunday- aka R favorite weekend each month.

It is said that the Lucca antiquarian tradition has ancient origins that date back to the Middle Ages when, centuries ago, the noble families of Lucca used to search around Europe for rare and exclusive pieces that could be used to enrich their mansions. Today, the event is for enthusiasts and collectors who can find everything from: jewels of every era, one of a kind objects, unique pieces of furniture, rich fabrics, fine antiques, modern crockery and tableware, paintings, etchings, vintage posters and much more.

Camden on the hunt

As avid antique market consumers, having this each month in our home city is a dream come true. While our two sons love to frequent the Pokemon collectors table, we love the thrill of the whole experience. It’s an adventure every time, as you truly never know what you are going to find or who you will meet along the way. When preparing to attend the market, I often wonder, what item(s) will I be able to cross off of my list? Or what space will I finally be able to complete? Or what will I see that I never knew I needed to have? Those are Camden’s favorites. Wink, wink!

Fit to measure (in cm, of course)

Surprisingly, what’s been even more gratifying than finding some of the unique items found thus far, is meeting the exhibitors. A few of which have now become our friends- a warm welcome awaits our family each time and our boys are treated liked royalty. Getting to know where they traveled from, or the beautiful story related to many of the items we inquire about, or just a simple exchange to share our admiration for their stand- all of this contributes to the magic that is the Lucca Antique Market.
